Alexandre Jacob was a French artist best known for his lustrous landscapes, with special observation paid to bodies of water. The painter achieved his soft, atmospheric style through application of oil pigments with a dry brush. Born Alexandre-Louis Jacob on August 14, 1876 in Paris, France, where he studied under Eugene Claude at the Beaux-Arts Academie, the artist began exhibiting in 1899 at various salons throughout the city. He joined L’Union des Beaux-Arts de Lagny with Édouard Léon Cortès, Maurice Louis Monnot, and Henri Lebasque in 1926. While also depicting still lifes, Jacob remained predominately a landscape painter throughout his long career, never veering far from the color, mood, and detail of his earlier artworks. He died in 1972 in Paris, France.
